Provision of legal aid, rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners in Azerbaijan

funded by the European Union and UNDP

Uluchay has implemented the “Provision of legal aid, rehabilitation, and reintegration of prisoners in Azerbaijan” project in associate partnership with the Regional Division of Ministry of Justice in the Sheki-Zagatala region and in partnership with the Center for Economic and Social Development (CESD).

The overall objective of the action is to protect and promote prisoners’ economic and social rights for their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The project is supported within the “Enabling civil society to play a greater role in advancing socio-economic rights of vulnerable populations” project funded by the European Union and supported by the UNDP.

Methodologies of implementation of action: Business trainings; technical grant support for business start-ups; legal aid, psychological mentoring, the establishment of vocational classes within the prison, capacity building for authorities, CSOs, and prison officers, awareness raising sessions for entrepreneurs, and awareness raising publications.

Achievements

478 cases of legal aid, 443 cases of psychological aid, 180 prisoners involved to business trainings, 160 prisoners involved to vocational education, 8 prisoners received start-up support to their business ideas, capacity and knowledge of prison staff, CSOs and authorities increased on prisoners rehabilitation and reintegration.
