A position paper on Perspectives for the development of sensitive juvenile justice for children presented to stakeholders

“Uluchay” Social-Economic Innovation Center, in cooperation with “Transparency Azerbaijan” presented a position paper on “Perspectives for the development of sensitive juvenile justice for children” to stakeholders. The event has been organized within the “Monitoring and advocating for the human rights of children and vulnerable women in Azerbaijan” project implemented by the “Uluchay” Social-Economic Innovation Center in cooperation with “Transparency Azerbaijan”.

On January 31, 2023, the position document was discussed at a round table with more than 30 NGOs, independent experts, and representatives of state bodies. Expert Ramil Iskanderli presented the position paper ” Perspectives for the development of sensitive juvenile justice for children” prepared within the framework of the project. The document analyzed and compared the experience of Western countries and Europe regarding juvenile justice with a national practice. Issues relevant to Azerbaijan in this field were emphasized, and recommendations were provided.

During the discussions, the representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population, the Office of the Ombudsman, the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children Affairs, and the Center for Social Research expressed their opinions and announced their future plans on the discussed topic.

At the same time, the results of the micro-research on “The cases of violence faced by children in Balaken region” prepared by the NGO coalition from Balakan as a result of technical support from the project.

The final version of the position paper will be presented to all interested parties, especially state institutions, taking into account the ideas and recommendations presented within the framework of the round table.
